Full Electrical Installation in Steyning

The Brief

A Steyning family home with original 1980s wiring needed a full rewire to bring the property up to current 18th Edition standards. The existing fuse board lacked RCD protection, several circuits had been added piecemeal over the years, and the household wanted to add new lighting, sockets, and a kitchen circuit ahead of a planned refurbishment.

What We Did

The work covered the full electrical installation:

• Pre-installation survey: Walked the property with the homeowner to confirm the new circuit layout, socket positions, and lighting plan, then quoted to a fixed price.
• First fix: Lifted floors where needed, ran new T&E cable to all circuits, dropped vertical runs in chased walls, and installed metal back-boxes for sockets and switches.
• Consumer unit replacement: Swapped the old plastic fuse board for a metal-clad RCBO consumer unit with a separate breaker on every circuit, fully labelled.
• Second fix: Installed sockets, switches, ceiling roses, downlights in the kitchen and bathroom, and a new outdoor light at the rear.
• Test and certify: Carried out the full insulation, continuity, polarity, and earth fault loop testing required for an EIC, then signed off and notified the local authority under Part P.
• Walkthrough: Showed the homeowner the new board layout, confirmed which breaker covered which circuit, and handed over the certification pack.

The Result

A fully compliant 18th Edition installation with RCBO protection on every circuit, neat second fix, and a clean certification trail. The homeowner now has a stable foundation for future work, including the planned kitchen refurbishment, and the property's electrical paperwork is in order for any future EICR or sale.

Job Duration: Approximately five working days from first fix to final sign-off.
